arsutoria final week

The Final weeks of THE ARSUTORIA COURSE CONSISTS OF: 1) MAKING A PROTOTYPE & FITTINGS, 2) WRITTEN TEST, 3) PATTERN MAKING TEST, 4) ORAL INTERVIEW TEST. ALL THE STUDENTS, INCLUDING MYSELF, WERE IN A FRANTIC TRYING TO STUDY ALL THE INFORMATION THAT HAS BEEN TAUGHT TO US IN THE PAST 3 MONTHS! IT WAS A LOT OF INFORMATION TO STUDY, BUT WE HAD A LOT OF FUN DURING THE PROCESS! MY CLASSMATES AND I WOULD HAVE STUDY SESSIONS TOGETHER! WE WOULD SUPPORT AND HELP EACH OTHER DURING OUR STUDIES, AND HAVE DISCUSSION FROM DETAILS IN STYLES OF PATTERNS, LASTS, MEASUREMENT CALCULATIONS, MATERIALS, AND FINISHINGS! MY CLASSMATES WERE TRULY AMAZING, KIND, AND TALENTED PEOPLE. THEY HOLD A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART AND MADE MY ARSUTORIA EXPERIENCE TRULY MEMORABLE!

MY FAVORITE STYLE OF SHOES ARE BOOTS! I LOVE CREATING THE PATTERNS FOR BOOTS. ALTHOUGH THEY ARE ONE OF THE MOST CHALLENGING PATTERNS TO PERFECT, I TOOK ON THE CHALLENGE ANYWAYS. I CREATED AN ALL BLACK CALF LEATHER TALL PULL UP BOOT, USING MATERIALS OF: SMOOTH CALF, PATENT & RUBBER COATED LEATHER. I WANTED TO ADD SUBTLE AND SEXY DETAILS TO THE BOOT, SO I CREATED ELEGANT PIPING ALONG THE SIDES OF THE BOOT AND AROUND THE STRAPS. THE STRAPS ARE NOT PIPED, BUT LAYERED ON TOP OF PATENT LEATHER IN ORDER TO HAVE CONSISTENCY WITH THE PIPING ON THE UPPER, BUT ALSO TO CUT CONSUMPTION COST. The BOOT IS ALSO LINED WITH BLACK KIDSKIN, LASTED ONTO A RED OUTSOLE AND NAILED WITH A 5-INCH STACKED LEATHER HEEL.

PROCESS

SKETCHES

WEEK 1: ROUGH SKETCHES WERE TO BE FINISHED OVER THE WEEKEND BEFORE THE FINAL 3 WEEKS OF PROTOTYPING STARTED.

gluing

WEEK 2: SHAO-WEI AND LIN WERE PART OF THE STITCHING AND GLUING DEPARTMENT THAT HELPED US ASSEMBLE OUR PROTOTYPES TOGETHER. THEY ARE AMAZING AND REALLY MADE OUR PROTOTYPES, NOT ONLY POSSIBLE TO CONSTRUCT, BUT POSSIBLE TO FINISH BEFORE THE DEADLINES.

PATTERN MAKING

WEEK 1: WHEN THE REAL PANIC BEGAN: TRYING TO FINISH UP THE DIFFICULT PATTERNS FOR THIS COMPLICATED BOOT! IT WAS DEFINITELY CHALLENGING, DUE TO THE FACT THAT I HAD TO ALSO FINISH UP A SECOND  PATTERN: THE GEA GOMMA SNEAKER

stitching

WEEK 2: STITCHING EXPERT, ADRIANA, IS TRULY INCREDIBLE. SHE WAS ABLE TO STITCH ALL OUR PROTOTYPES QUICKLY, AND EFFICIENTLY. ADRIANA WAS A DELIGHT TO WORK WITH AND SUCH A SWEET HEART. ALTHOUGH MY PROTOTYPE TOOK A DAY TO STITCH, AND WAS THE TROUBLEMAKER OF THE PILE, ADRIANA WAS ABLE TO CONSTRUCT MY PROTOTYPE FLAWLESSLY.

LEATHER PIECES

WEEK 1: AFTER FINISHING THE PATTERN PIeCES & CREATING THE PATTERN ENVELOPES, We CUT OUT THE LEATHER PIECES, FROM UPPER, LINING, TRIMS, REINFORCEMENTS, AND PADDING (IF NEEDED). MARKING ON THE LEATHER PIECES IS ESSENTIAL IN ORDER TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE STITCHING DEPARTMENT ON UNDERLAYS, FOLDING, & TRIM OFFS.

LASTING

WEEK 3: bruno, silio, and andrea: the lasting experts, lasted all our prototypes in the 3rd and last week of prototyping. they were super sweet, caring and did a superb job on lasting and fixing the outsoles on the uppers! bravissimo!
